These projects demonstrate the wide range of products offered by Moll Rail – from applications on high-speed lines to industrial track infrastructure and urban rail systems.

Riedbahn track renewal
Over 300 trains run daily between Mannheim and Frankfurt (Main). This is one of the most important routes on the German rail network. Following several months of complete closure, the Riedbahn was reopened in 2024. We produced around half of all the sleepers used on the approximately 70-kilometre stretch of track that was renovated at our works in Biebesheim.

Track renewal on the Hamburg–Hanover line
One of the key rail links in northern Germany was upgraded in 2025 using sleeper pads from the Moll Rail plant in Hanover. Around 135,000 sleepers from our production line were used in the project.

High-speed lines 4080 and 1733
The two high-speed lines 4080 and 1733 underwent a complete refurbishment between 2019 and 2022 as part of a total line closure by Deutsche Bahn AG. The track structure was also renewed throughout.
On the sections between Mannheim and Stuttgart and between Kassel and Fulda, a total of more than 400,000 B07-type sleeper with underlays from our factories were used.

Stock levels for major projects and corridor initiatives
In preparation for major projects and corridor initiatives, Deutsche Bahn regularly stocks central depots with prestressed concrete sleepers. Moll Rail is a reliable partner in this regard.
In recent years, we have already delivered several hundred thousand sleepers to DB’s storage sites, enabling our client to carry out upcoming major projects smoothly and efficiently. The logistics for these stock replenishments are handled both through our client’s own planning and via logistics solutions organised by Moll Rail.

Weddel's loop
The ‘Weddeler Schleife’ is a section of the Braunschweig–Wolfsburg line. For its double-track upgrade, we supplied around 60,000 B70 K900 sleepers from our factory in Hanover in 2022. This will enable higher capacity and faster speeds on this section of the line from now on.

Foynes-Limerick (Ireland)
The railway line from the Irish seaport of Foynes to Limerick, in the island’s interior, had been out of service for a long time. When it was to be refurbished and brought back into service, Moll Rail was chosen as the supplier of sleepers – and the Neuss site in North Rhine-Westphalia, which is the most conveniently located for deliveries to Ireland. The first step was to invest in new moulds to accommodate Irish Rail’s different track gauge.
This was followed by the logistical planning. In the end, it took 850 lorry loads to Antwerp in Belgium. From there, the approximately 65,000 sleepers were transported by sea to Foynes in eight shiploads. The project was successfully completed in March 2024.

ÜSTRA Hannover – and many others
Moll supplies longitudinal beams and track grates for grass-covered tracks for various urban projects, such as those carried out by ÜSTRA, Hannover’s public transport operator.
